7 Lagoons Tour

Explore the natural wonders of the Andes with our tour to the 7 lakes. These bodies of water, located in the lower foothills of the Ausangate mountain south of Cusco, present a variety of names and colors, mostly generated by the melting of glaciers in the Vilcanota mountain range. In addition to their breathtaking beauty, they play a crucial role as water sources for local communities and the farmland near these lakes.

Our journey to the 7 lakes begins early in the morning with our tourist transportation arriving at your hotel in Cusco. Upon your arrival, our official guide will welcome you and take your temperature with an infrared thermometer, following safety protocols. After collecting all participants, we will head south of the city, reaching Tinke and then diverting towards the Pacchanta community to enjoy a nutritious breakfast before starting the hike. The journey from Cusco to Pacchanta in our transportation takes approximately 3 hours.

After preparing and receiving instructions from our guide, we will begin the hike to the lakes. The first one, Pukaqocha, stands out for its red waters, caused by the melting of the surrounding mountains. We will continue to Pataqocha, located at 4868 meters above sea level, and then to Alqaqocha, which presents a variable hue at 4752 meters above sea level.

During the journey, we will enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks such as Ausangate, Puka punta, Tinke, Mariposa, Jampa, Caracol, and Qayangate. We will continue towards Q’omeqocha, known as the “green lagoon,” due to its greenish waters caused by algae. Subsequently, we will explore the Orq’o Otorongo and China Otorongo lakes, with similarities in name and landscape reminiscent of the fur of the otorongo, the jungle feline.

We will conclude the journey by visiting the Azulqocha lagoon, with turquoise blue waters due to mineral filtration. Contact with these waters is prohibited. After approximately 5 hours of hiking among snow-capped peaks and lakes, we will return to Pacchanta for a well-deserved lunch and rest, or to take advantage of the community’s hot springs.

At around 2:30 p.m., we will begin the return to the city of Cusco, thus concluding a journey full of energy, photographs, and joy.
